New App

Local GPs in Stockport are encouraging residents to get ‘appy’ and look after their health by using their smartphones and tablets.

It’s estimated that four out of five people in the borough have a smartphone and medics want to tap in to this growing trend.

A Stockport Health & Care Finder app has been created to give people a chance to take more control of their own health. This will help to increase people’s understanding of how to use and access local health and social care services, self-care options and lifestyle opportunities.

The app will give users rapid and easy access to up-to-date local health and social care information including a directory of pharmacies, GPs, hospitals, clinics, care homes and other services.

At a touch of a button users will be able to find the services that are nearest to them at any time. For example, if you’re trying to find a late night chemist, the app will automatically sort out which are the closest to you and then give you the opening hours, address and contact details.

You can also set up favourites for faster access to the services you’re interested in and dial them directly from your app.

There are links on it to videos about how best to take care of yourself if you are ill and how to prevent ill health. The app can also be used to send out reminders about health checks and screening entitlements.

It’s also hoped the app will help to encourage high users of NHS services to get the right care in the right place.

WHEN TO USE NHS 111

You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation. Please visit the following website for further information:-

HEARING LOOP

Hearing Loop

We have today installed a hearing loop at the practice. A hearing loop is a special type of sound system for use by people with hearing aids. The hearing loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting. We hope this will help our hard of hearing patients have a better experience at the practice.

Appointments

You may make an appointment to see any of the doctors.

Appointments can be made by telephoning 0161 4269770 or by attending the practice during surgery office hours.

You can also book online via the link at the top of this page. Please note you must obtain a username and password before you use this service for the first time.   Please come into reception with a form of ID and ask about signing up for Patient Access

Urgent cases will always be seen on the same day.

Routine appointments will be offered at the first available time.

There are doctors available to consult each day, although it may not be the doctor of your choice.

Open Access Children’s Service

Acutely ill children will be seen by a GP on the same day. Please phone the surgery as early as possible in the morning. One of our receptionists will take some brief details and place you on the triage list.

The GP will phone you back as soon as possible to assess the situation further and deal with the problem in the most appropriate way. You may be asked to bring your child down to the surgery straight away.

Telephone Access and Advice

If you need to speak to a doctor, please understand that usually they will be unable to speak to you during surgery times.

The doctors will normally be available for telephone advice between 12:30 and 13:00.

Extended Hours

Please note the practice now offers extended hours with appointments until 19:10 on 2 evenings a week. We are also offering appointments from 07:20 on a Thursday morning.

Teaching & Training

We are a teaching practice for Manchester University Medical School. The staff here teach medical students to become doctors, so we would be very grateful if you could allow them to be present in your consultation. You are the most important part of their training.

Everything they see or discuss with you remains confidential. If you prefer not to have a student present then please let the receptionist know prior to your appointment.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
